Forget 3G,turn towards 4G

Telenor’s chairman Harald Norvik and CEO Jon Fredrik Baksaas announced the opening of world’s northernmost 4G/LTE network in Longyearbyen.
The LTE test launch adds to a number of “northernmosts”  most northerly domestic fiber services, northernmost 2G, 3G, satellite station, and other ground-breaking records.
Around 1900, when industrialization and mining industry was starting to take off in the Arctic, Svalbard was increasingly becoming attractive to various nations and great powers.
On May 3, 1911, the Norwegian parliament agreed that a radio telegraph station was to be built on Svalbard. The station was named Spitsbergen Radio and originally built in Green Harbour linking Svalbard to the Norwegian mainland.
The city and the inhabitants of Longyearbyen have, on several occasions, served as a test bed for Telenor’s implementation of technological improvements and new services.

In spite of their remote location, today’s inhabitants of Longyearbyen are taking advantage of the latest in technology in their daily lives – such as interactive IPTV, fiber to the home, Triple-Play, and mobile broadband.

How to "Friend" Someone on Facebook & Hide It From Your Status Updates

hide status updates on facebookI’m sure that this has happened to you before. Someone you have ties to, whether it’s a co-worker, your boss, or even worse, a parent, has finally discovered social networking and wants to be your newest Facebook friend.
For me personally, that’s no big deal. I’m fairly open about my online activities. Everything I write, Digg, or otherwise share goes through my FriendFeed to my Twitter then ultimately onto my Facebook (my, that sounds naughty). Besides that, just about everyone I’d consider a co-worker is already on Facebook, and would have little issue about my other Internet activities.
Putting all that aside however, imagine for a moment that I worked at Domino’s Pizza and that I don’t want my boss to know that I just became a fan of Papa John’s (writing this one’s gonna make me hungry). Here’s what I would do to hide Facebook status updates and keep that fact confined to my closer friends:
On your Facebook home page, you should see the ‘Settings’ menu close to the search field on your upper-right. Open that menu and go to ‘Privacy Settings’.
facebook privacy settings friends
On the next page, you’ll have four choices: Profile, Search, News Feed, and Applications. What you’ll want to edit here are your Profile privacy settings.
By default, everything on your profile is limited to your Friends and your Networks (your first Network is likely your city of residence, but you may have joined more). From the screenshot above, you can see that I’ve limited everything on my profile to my Friends and their Friends. Anyone else who visits my profile will only see that I have a profile, but will not see what’s on it.
In my example, you’re going to want to edit the setting on your Status Updates, since you don’t want your boss to know that you’ve “fanned” the competition. Click that dropdown menu and then select ‘Customize’.
You may want to tweak your overall privacy setting here, but what we’re aiming for is the “Except These People” list at the bottom of this dialog. Type out the name of any of your Friends to restrict that person from viewing anything in your Status Updates.

How to Place Facebook Chat On Firefox Sidebar

Facebook Chat is cool, at least it allows you to send instant messages to online Facebook contacts. However I’m not really a fan of the chat bar being at the bottom of the page, what if I’ve left Facebook but still wants to remain chatting with my Facebook contacts? If you are using Firefox, you can place the Facebook Chat at the sidebar.

Step 1

Look for Bookmarks on the top navigation. Select Organize Bookmarks…

4G-India India is all set to move on from 3G to 4G

India is all set to move on from 3G to 4G
]India is all set to move on from 3G to 4G, technically known as Long Term Evolution in mobile broadband, leading industry and technology experts said at LTE India 2011 international conference organized by Bharat Exhibitions today.
“With mass adoption, lowest cost per bit, highest capacity, best user experience and a true global standard, the world is stepping into 4G expecting 380 million LTE subscribers and 80 plus LTE networks by 2015” said Mr. Sujit Bakre, Nokia Siemens Networks head of 4G business development.
Bharti Airtel VP for networks Mr. Puneet Garg put 2012 as the year of “next step towards a broadband wireless revolution using LTE” that “will change the way people connect to communicate” Bharti Airtel was ready for this change over, he said.
LTE or 4G would be a smooth transition using core set up of the 2G/3G networks, several experts emphasized at the conference, a transition “dramatically matured”. Already with globally 18 launches with 208 network commitments, the 100 Megabits per second LTE service was described by several experts and operator executives as providing a “unique consumer experience”. Worldwide trials had already started in 2010.
In China large scale trials had been started by China Mobile. In India Qualcomm and Huawei had set up a trial network in Hyderabad. “It is an opportunity for India to telescope change but the technology would support only four or five operators provided they have a pan India reach” according to Mr. Mallikarjuna Rao.
Mr. Amaru Chavez Pujol, Group CTO of Etisalat, a multi-continent operator company, defined LTE as a ”strong and well-defined data interface that promises a new reality”.
Warning that India could not afford to miss the universal broadband overage, “a single most imperative in this country to take our nation forward “Shri Rajan S. Mathews, director-general of Cellular Operators Association of India said auction was not the best way for the national imperative move forward.
Defining a new take on the widely acclaimed auction route Mathews pointed out this route was shifting a vast amount of resources from the private sector to the government sector and to restore the balance of dynamism in the spread of mobile broadband it was necessary to bring that money back in the service of the spread and reach of the telecom-broadband networks. He suggested greater active infrastructure sharing, operator efforts to determine and invest in what the consumer really want and a greater attention to local language services for success in India of the broadband revolution sweeping the world.
